Exploring how to customize new maps from Ovi

Hello everyone, hope you have already downloaded our new Maps beta for Symbian^3 devices and are using them.
The version of maps that we have is an experimental version – which means that this is the version where we switch up and try out different things. One of the changes that we tried is to bring maps to the home screen. Now, with just one click, you can find your location, access the guides and content.
I found that the settings for maps has changed a bit as well. Earlier, you had to go into the maps app to make the changes in the map. However, now that we have brought the key features of earlier maps literally to your fingertips on the home screen, we had to tweak the settings menu as well. Instead of having separate settings for each of the five widgets, we moved the settings for the beta under Settings in the main menu.
Once you click on Settings, it takes you to the Settings menu where you will see the option to find yourApplication Settings.
Once we click on the Application Settings, it will take us to the menu where you will find two settings –Positioning, which was there for earlier versions of maps and helped you to decide what to use to navigate – from being Offline to being on Bluetooth GPS. The Maps Apps is exactly what it means – by clicking it, you can find the settings to the five map widgets.
Once you click on it, it will take you to the different menus. For example, when you click on Navigation, you can set your preferences which will be followed by all the widgets.
When you click on Route, it will take you to the route settings where you can define your preferred way of traveling and what kinds of roads to avoid:
And on Map here you can set the metric systems, the amount of memory that the applications can use and which memory to be used. Once you click on the Categories here, it takes you to what is my favorite feature of the beta:
Yes! It opens up all the 26 main Categories, and you can choose which of them you want to always highlight on your map. I chose Cash Machines, Restaurants, Shops and Tourist Attractions.
Now, whenever I use my phone, whether after switching it off and on again or changing the themes or profiles, it will remember my choices and show them on my map and drive or walk routes.
And if I Drive? Then again, it will show me the categories that I want to see.
Have you figured out the new settings yet? What are your thoughts on them? Do not forget to give feedback to my colleagues at Beta Labs!
