Ovi Store Client Gets an Update: We are WoWed

Have you dropped by the Ovi store since last night? We have been trying in vain till now, for the store was being updated, preventing us and everyone else from accessing the store during the upgrade. Just when we were about to give up today, we were able to access the revamped store and boy, we are delighted by the latest version of the store.

As you all know there have been a slew of complaints against the Ovi store and while the present version doesn’t take everything off the complaint list, it does rectify a few. Find what complaints are addressed and what are left out, after the break though.

In case you are wondering how to get the update, all you gotta do is tap on the ovi store app and it will prompt you for the update. Clicking on the update button should download the latest version of Ovi store client on your 5800s. On your first login, you will notice that Nokia have finally switched to rating apps/game on the scale of 5 stars compared to the earlier scale of 3 stars. The 3 star rating was almost redundant as most of the applications were stuck with 2 star ratings, making it difficult for both: new consumers looking for apps/games and developers for they were not really about to differentiate their apps/games within the store.

Another notable addition is the inclusion of handset description of reviewers of apps/games, which should help skeptics in making up their mind considering the reviewers experience on the reported handsets. We have seen many apps/games which function smoothly on other symbian devices but not on 5800, this feature should save us a lot of time, the next time we are hunting for apps/games on the ovi store.

Other improvements include: more screenshots and faster and better search/indexing of apps/games, detailed information of apps/games and some minor tweaks for the desktop version of Ovi store. Do check the Ovi blog for more info on the update.
