Perhaps the most popular VoIP service cum client-Skype added a few more fans to its already burgeoning fanbase with it’s symbian client seeing an update a couple of days ago. Such is the popularity of this service that chances are that people more easily identify to Skype than the generic term for this service-VoIP.Skype fascinated netizens with its attractive call rates in VoIP and easy video integration in Skype-Skype IM conversations. While VoIP calls work great over the client, will we now able to make video calls on Skype iPhone 4 style? Let’s find out, after the break.

The short answer to that is NO, not yet. The official Skype client for Symbian doesn’t support video chatting yet. It’s ironic that though the symbian phones have sported a front facing camera for over half a decade now, Skype has overlooked this feature in their symbian client while the iPhone with its very first front facing camera model, gets the Skype update enabling video calls.
Having thrown video calling out of the window, is there anything to look forward in this iteration of Skype for Symbian? Fortunately, there is: the all new memory management frees more RAM than any of the VoIP clients you have on your 5800s.

- Absence of video calling
- Noticeable lag in responses when compared to the Skype client on PC/Mac
Verdict
Skype is such a popular VoIP/IM service, that most of the 5800ers are gonna love to have this client on their handset. While the client as such isn’t as good as one would have expected it to be (especially the lack of video calls), it ain’t much bad either. Improved memory management is one good reason to get this update if you already haven’t on your 5800s.
