Using Windows Upgrade Advisor Before You Install Windows7

It’s time to install Windows 7 on a couple of my older computers. How do I know Windows 7 will run on them properly? Fortunately for me, the guess work is taken out of the equation with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
Go to the Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx) page, and then make sure that all USB devices such as printers, external hard drives, and scanners that you normally use with this machine are plugged in and powered on.
Then click on the Upgrade Advisor link which will take you to the Microsoft Download Center. Then click on download, when the box pops up click on run, then run again. After the installation click on next and accept the license terms. The default installation location should be fine. If the User Account Control Window pops up, go ahead and click on continue. Once the installation is complete close the installation window.
After you close your browser you should see a Windows Upgrade Advisor Shortcut on your desktop. Click or double click on your shortcut icon, if the UAC window appears click on continue, then click on start check.
When you get your report, it will tell you things you need to do, such as update your current operating system, upgrade ram, and make you aware of things you may be using now, with your current operating system, that may not be included in Windows 7.
After you make whatever changes that are suggested then go ahead and run the Upgrade Advisor again.
Once you are satisfied that all requirements are met and warnings heeded then you can safely upgrade your current operating system to the latest and greatest version of Windows 7.
Just for kicks, I ran the upgrade advisor on my Vista machine and here are the results.
