Review: HTC Incredible S

Review: HTC Incredible S
Its name, the expectations of HTC's Incredible S high. The Desire took for granted to the device require the Desire HD did that with this addition even stronger. But what was so "unthinkable" to the HTC Incredible S? After a week I am still behind. But: it is a fine machine.
Unlike the Desire HD calls on the S Incredible not stop until a comprehensive and detailed account of my experiences. HTC makes the S Incredible therefore no huge leaps forward - but you can not really speak of a decline. Frankly, I am the marketing of these new Taiwanese Android smartphone put on the wrong foot: incredible? Why incredible? The Incredible S is almost nothing the Desire HD can not also. And yet the subtle differences between the jump aircraft in the eye.
Abnormal body
To begin with the most striking: the housing. The back cover of the Incredible S consists entirely of a rubber-like material and is designed as a sort of magnified SIM card. Where the recess of the lower right corner to be is unclear, but it gives the unit a unique character. Perhaps it simply just that: something different. Among those rubbery cover - as in almost all smarthones - battery, SIM card and microSD slot to find.

The case of the Incredible S is thus also more efficient than that of his famous brother. The Desire HD has an almost all-aluminum body with the bottom and side of the unit behind some rubbery flaps (side) the battery, and (at the bottom) SIM card and microSD hidden. There are mainly in the beginning been complaints about those covers, because that would be pretty easy to slide into place. I have no problems as such, but if you phone in tight pants carrying it is not inconceivable. So feel the Desire HD because the material is much more massive and robust, but the S Incredible thinner and lighter above, and he lies by the material of the boot firmly in hand. Both devices are no longer hardware buttons to the device to operate - there are only two buttons, one for on and off, and one for hard and soft.

The differences on the outside can be dangerous: The Incredible S is almost 30 (!) Grams lighter than its big brother. He is 0.1 mm thinner, 3 mm 4 mm shorter and narrower than the Desire HD. The size of course all to do with the smaller display of the Incredible S, with 4 inches less than the housing needs of the large 4.3 inch display Desire HD requires. But although I really am a fan of this luxuriously large display, I have the 0.3 inch in practice the S Incredible hardly missed striking.
Furthermore is the on / off button right on top of the unit (the HD is Desire left), and someone had the wisdom to the minijack input on the top of the unit to process, rather like the bottom Desire HD. The entrance is from the Incredible microUSB S side hidden, rather than from below. When this input is S Incredible again not covered. The camera sits in the middle Desire HD still neatly on top of the unit, while for the S Incredible top left has been processed.

Specifications: little difference
Apart from the above mentioned differences appear to be no major differences in hardware specifications. The Android OS is not (yet) the same (2.2.1 will be upgraded later this year to "Gingerbread" 2.3), the processor has the same speed (1GHz), the display is smaller but the same type (super LCD WVGA) camera offer 8MP and the device also supports video in 720p HD. Both devices have the same sensors (such as G-Sensor, digital compass, proximity sensor and light sensor), Bluetooth, Wifi, and call it all up.
Desire is the HD still comes with a microSD card and you have to buy separately if you choose the Incredible S. Which therefore has 50% more storage memory: 1.5 GB, but in practice too soon enough. The RAM memory is 768MB same again. Both devices are (obviously) back with the acclaimed Sense and HTC look also what the menu is concerned exactly the same. There are so few dramatic differences to explore. Who will read the small print underneath the battery that provides more power Incredible S: 1450 mAh, where the Desire HD with 1230 mAh should try to do, and that with a faster processor and a bigger display!

Speed
Still, I sometimes got the idea that the HD Desire in practice does its job faster. I noticed that it sometimes took a little longer for the home screen again came into the picture after I had completed an application. A simple benchmark tester and the free Standard Quadrant confirms the impression: the HD scores for each test run speed to over 1750, where the S Incredible no further than 1525. Another free benchmark Neocore, measuring how many frames per second with a movie can be played. Since the Desire HD scores again higher (58.8fps) than the S Incredibe (56.6 fps), but your video will not really lower by 2.2 fps look worse. Results like these certainly do not say anything, but they do show that the Incredible on that point is not what you say "unbelievable" is.
What happens now is strange is that this HTC presented during the MWC unit is notimmediately life all hype of the latest dual-core processor. The dual-core comes naturally or by HTC (the HTC Pyramid), but the constant "need for speed" seems to have a huge attraction to the high-end consumer to have the dual core processor already in advance the new standard raised has. Seen Incredible S starts with a disadvantage in this market segment is difficult to catch. Although HTC starts with a suggested retail price of 519 euros and therefore not shown the prize requires, it seems likely that the device will drop fast in price will HTC still a lot of converting.

Conclusion
It is a bit unusual short review today, but many more there really is not to say, except that the S Incredible cases not against me. What speed is concerned, he is slightly slower than the HD Desire, but the difference is really marginal use. That is not to scale. Of course submit your pretty on the so attractive display size, but 4 inches is still a nice size, and where I Desire HD is not fast in my pocket would carry I would venture that the Incredible S easily, given the size and because of the weight difference.
With almost 30 grams more of Desire HD did you feel you can quickly add "more units" with you - the robust sense of it I also experienced as positive, but in size, the device is simply a little more robust - more cumbersome if you will - Incredible than the S. And while some see it as "plastic" will experience is certainly something to be said for the choice of that rubbery "slip" material to the back of the Incredible S, although it would not surprise me if many consumers frown at the different, asymmetric shape of it.
Finally, the S Incredible S - what does that? Is it a nod to the huge success story of the major Korean rival? Galaxy S refers to the letter went to the Super AMOLED display, but not S, the Incredible. What is that S is? The lack of dual-core processor already circulating the joke that he "Slow" state, but the joke is of course only if the dual-core processor is no longer impossible to imagine from the shelves, and so far it has not. The HTC Incredible S is certainly not incredible, but simply, well imagine. No more and no less.
